The cooling tower auditing story |
Victoria Australia is the legislative pioneer in the auditing of cooling towers. From this and other international experience it is clear auditing will lead the way as the most effective strategy for cooling management in the 21st Century. Cooling tower auditing is based on a simple approach; a plan that is audited each year. But at its heart is addresses many of the fundamanetal operational and risk issues associated with cooling towers. For landowners and Nominated Responsible Persons it is a strategy of empowerment, system visibility, lobbying, using appropriate systems to prove due diligence and quantify a return on investment. As faciliators we are especially keen on the visibility that Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) can bring. In addition to microbiology and water treatment provider service frequency other KPI's could also be considered for example corrosion and energy performance. Please contact us for more information

Cooling Tower Auditing - the empowerment process |
Cooling tower auditing was first developed in Victoria Australia as a response to the Legionella "Aquarium Outbreak". As a result, Victorian legislation requires each cooling tower have a Risk Management Plan (RMP) and for this RMP to be audited each year. Our experience of auditing is that it emphasises the importance of the nominated responsible person reviewing, discussing and implementing the risk assessment. We are deeply commited to the concept of a "total engineering approach", where both the risk of Legionella and the potential for mechanical & operational issues associated with a cooling system are minimised. Auditing is a reassuring platform for ensuring production critical and health and safety issues are adequately addressed. Auditing has many benefits. For example your water treatment provider or air conditioning contractor is more likely to be vigilant. Our experience is that it leads to a more robust system. We are also keen on the evolution and understanding of inter locking verification sytems. Our focus is on how we can help you and to add value to your business. Please contact us for more information

Follow up of missing documents |
We do disuss prior audit findings with our clients and we have up to three month to follow up on any missing documents. We are especially keen that water treatment providers are aware of the value of the paper work they generate for you and understand its lobby and communication value. Please contact us for more information

Our Experience |
We have often heard the question "How do audits help reduce the risk and add value?" We are enthusiastic about audits and believe as verification systems or processes they can offer considerable value. We have seen many hundreds of cooling tower systems over considerable numbers of year periods Our observation is that independant microbiological testing is an invaluable tool in verifying the efficacy of water treatment programs. We believe the audit approach enables us to offer an interesting and helpful approach. There remains a global debate as to whether cooling towers are more of a chemical / microbiology or mechanical issue our experience the issue is more of a systems management and performance based process. When is an Audit Required? |
In Victoria yearly. For other states, our guidance is that a cooling tower audit is best conducted on a yearly basis. |
